2008년 3월 28일에 Textcube 1.7 alpha 1 버전이 발표되었다 . 1.6이 나온 지 사실 얼마 되지 않았는데 바로 1.7이 나와서 보았더니 몇 가지 새로운 특징이 있지만 그 중 아이팟 터치(iPod touch)/아이폰(iPhone) 모드를 지원한다는 내용이 눈에 들어왔다.

기존 Textcube 주소에 iphone만 추가하면 된다.

PDA로 볼 때에도 http://infosys.iptime.org/tt1/m/ 과 같은 모바일 모드보다는 이 모드로 보는 것이 좋을 것 같다.

탭 브라우저로 유명한 Maxthon이 3월 25일에 새로운 베타 버전을 거쳐 2.0.9.1640 버전을 발표하였다.

2.0.8 버전부터 인터넷 익스플로러의 IE 툴바 및 확장 기능을 지원하기 시작하였고, 이번 버전에서는 다음과 같은 점들이 개선되었다.

요전에 발표된 마이크로소프트 Internet Explorer 8 베타 버전의 표준 모드를 사용할 수 있는 옵션¹이 추가되었으나 자체적으로도 추천하지 않은 기능으로 표시되어 있고, 실제로도 문제를 일으키는 웹페이지들이 있기 때문에 당분간 사용하지 않는 것이 좋을 것 같다.

가급적 사용하던 버전은 깨끗하게 삭제(uninstall)하고 새로 설치하여 사용하는 것이 좋다.

IT 분야의 각종 정보를 제공하는 포털로 유명한 ZDNet에서 블로그를 운영하는 사람 중에 Ed Bott 이 있다. 이 사람이 최근 "내가 즐겨 사용하는 Windows 프로그램 10가지"라는 제목의 글을 올렸다.

지금까지 사용해본 모든 프로그램을 통틀어 아래 10가지를 제시했다.

Process Explorer (Sysinternals/Microsoft) ¹The most amazing diagnostic tool ever, created by Microsoft Distinguished Fellow Mark Russinovich. If you use Task Manager, you should replace it with this free alternative, which does so much more.

RoboForm (Siber Systems) Create strong passwords, save them, and automatically fill them in using Firefox or IE. If you’re frustrated by passwords, this is your answer.

Keyfinder (Magical Jelly Bean Software) If you had to reinstall Windows tomorrow, do you know where your product ID is? If the answer is no, get this tiny free utility, which finds product IDs for dozens of popular programs (including Windows and Office) and lets you print or save the results.

ClipMate Clipboard Extender (ThornSoft Development) When I set up a new PC, this is the first program I install. It’s that good. I save thousands of keystrokes a year thanks to this gem of a utility.

FeedDemon for Windows (NewsGator Technologies) The best damn RSS reader in the Windows world. Period. And it’s now free.

Windows Live Photo Gallery (Microsoft) You’ll have to search for it, but this updated version of the Windows Photo Gallery that debuted in Vista is worth the hunt. If you’ve chosen to steer clear of Vista, no worries: It works in XP too.

Allway Sync (Usov Lab) This powerful tool synchronizes the contents of folders over a network or to external storage and is an ideal complement to most backup programs.

SnagIt (TechSmith) As a technology writer, I use this screen capture program nearly every day. Even after six years, I’m still discovering new tricks it can do.

IE7Pro If you use IE7, you need this free add-on, which provides ad blocking, tab management, inline search, crash recovery, and all the other features Microsoft left out.

FinePrint (FinePrint Software) Over the years, I can’t even imagine how many trees I’ve spared with the help of this program.² If you print more than a few pages a month, you have to try this.

이 중에 지금 현재 내가 사용하고 있고 추천하는 프로그램은 아래와 같은 것들이다.

- RoboForm: 각종 패스워드(암호)의 생성과 관리에 필수적이며 업데이트도 꾸준하게 이루어지고 있다.

- Keyfinder: 자주 사용하는 것은 아니다. 가끔 필요할 때가 있는 요긴한 프로그램이다.

- Windows Live Photo Gallery: 주로 사용하는 프로그램은 아니지만 유사한 기능의 다른 프로그램들과 함께 잘 사용하고 있다.

- Allway Sync: 여러 대의 PC에 같은 데이터와 환경을 유지하거나 백업을 하는 데에는 필수적인 프로그램이다.

- SnagIt: 이 분야에 대명사가 된 듯한 유명한 화면 캡처 프로그램이다. 유사한 유료, 무료의 프로그램들이 많지만 여기서 뭔가가 빠진 듯한 느낌이 나기 때문에 줄곧 쓰게 된다.

- IE7 Pro: 이 프로그램이 없으면 Internet Explorer(인터넷 익스플로러)가 한없이 "없어" 보인다.

- FinePrint: 여기 프로그램들 중 사용한 지 가장 오래된 것이다.

위에서 추천한 프로그램 중 같은 용도의 다른 프로그램을 사용하는 것들은 아래와 같다.

- Process Explorer: 상당히 좋은 프로그램이다. 하지만, 내 경우에는 Process Tamer 와 CachemanXP 를 같이 사용하고 있다.

- ClipMate Clipboard Extender: 나는 일본에서 개발된 CLCL 이라는 프로그램을 쓴다.

- FeedDemon for Windows: 나는 GreatNews 를 쓰지만 빈도는 그렇게 높지 않다. RSS 자체만으로 해당 홈페이지의 콘텐츠를 모두 즐길 수도 없고 다른 내용을 확인하려면 또 다른 조치가 필요하기 때문이다. 유료 프로그램인 WebSite-Watcher 를 추천한다.

이런 프로그램은 자신의 업무나 필요에 따라 선택 여부가 당연히 달라진다. 그렇다 하더라고 위와 같은 프로그램은 누구든지 PC를 어떤 용도로 사용하든 설치하여 유용하게 사용될 기본적인 것들로 생각된다.

얼마 전에 "[이지티비(EasyTV)] TV 카드 없이 인터넷으로 KBS, MBC, SBS 한 번에 고화질로 시청하기(2008. 2. 16.) "라는 글을 통해 인터넷이 연결된 PC에서 TV를 볼 수 있는 프로그램을 소개한 적이 있다. 이때 소개한 이지티비는 당나귀TV(DonkeyTV) 라는 프로그램과 같은 것으로 제작자도 같고 인터페이스나 사용 방법도 같지만 메뉴 구성이나 미세한 몇 가지 점이 다르다. 그래도 그냥 같은 프로그램인데 그것이 중요한 것이 아니라, 3월 21일자로 공지된 제작사의 게시물로 봐도 알 수 있지만 MBC와 SBS는 더는 볼 수 없게 되었다.

그래서 해당 프로그램의 채널 목록에서도 이 방송국 이름이 삭제되었다. 그래도 EBS는 추가되어 그나마 위안이 되고 있다.

아무튼, 인터넷으로 TV를 보는 일이 갈수록 어려워지고 있다. DMB 방송이나 IPTV 등 대체 매체들이 많이 등장해서 그렇기도 하겠지만 이를 즐기는 이들에게는 답답한 일이 되고 있다.

그나마 인터넷을 통해 TV나 라디오 방송을 해주는 곳들이 있어 찾아다니면서 보는 이들도 있고 이를 한 군데로 몰아 즐길 수 있게 해주는 프로그램도 국내외에 몇 가지가 있다.

이번 글에서 소개하는 "PDA 실시간 TV 보기: Broadcast"는 아래 기사에서 2008년 3월 18일자로 공개된 정말 괜찮은 인터넷 TV 보기 프로그램이다.

이 기사에서 "broadcast-cybersol.exe"라는 이름의 파일을 다운로드하여 그냥 실행만 하면 된다. 별도로 설치 과정이 필요하지 않은 단일 실행 파일이다. 더 괜찮은 점은 PC나 PDA에서 별도의 변환 작업 없이 그대로 동시에 사용할 수 있다는 것이다. 단, .NET Framework이 설치되어 있어야 한다. 아래 그림은 PDA에서 사용하는 예이다. 접속하는데 약간의 시간이 필요하지만 잘 만들어진 프로그램이다.

Find in Page Dialog¹
The new Find in Page shows the matches found, can move to next match with "+", or to the previous match with "-". User can also move to any match directly by clicking the extended dialog which shows all matches found.

Popup Blocker
Popup Blocker is significantly improved in this version. Since popup blocker became popular with XP SP2, advertisers now often open popups when a link or button is clicked to trick popup blockers that the popups are requested by user. In this version, user can add such popups to the popup blacklist by right click the tab and select "send to". The popup blacklist (and whitelist) can be edited in Tools > Maxthon Setup Center > Ad Hunter

Maxthon Downloader
The Maxthon Downloader introduced in the last version has been further enhanced. Now user can drag multiple links and drop to download. A status bar button has also been added to open the Maxthon Downloader tab and show the download status. To show this button, right click the status bar, select "Add or Remove Buttons", and select "Maxthon Downloader..."

Other Improvements and Fixes
Besides the above major changes, many features have also been fine tuned. e.g. Maxthon Guardian, Online Favorites, Maxthon Website Booster no longer require restart to effect. There is also change to Advanced Proxy so that changes will effect immediately. If any problem is encountered with proxy, please delete the ProxyConfig.xml inside your user profile or the SharedAccount (typical location is: C:\Program Files\Maxthon2\user@mail.com\Config\ProxyConfig.xml)

내가 가장 좋아하고 오래 써 온 실치형 게시판은 테크노트(Technote) 이다. 다소 복잡하고 어렵게 느껴지는 부분도 없지 않지만 사용자가 임의대로 수정해서 사용할 수 있는 여지가 많고 유연성이 크기 때문에 잘 만들어진 좋은 툴로 생각된다.

이 프로그램의 유연성을 높여주는 기능 중 하나로 빌더(Builder)라는 것이 있다. 한 마디로 각종 게시판으로 구성된 단일 홈페이지를 자동으로 생성해주는 일종의 추가 기능이다. 이 역시 다양한 세팅 값을 사용자가 직접 조정하여 다양한 모양과 권한, 용도의 홈페이지를 만들 수 있게 해준다. 그래도 몇 가지 부족한 점이 있어 개인적으로는 거의 사용하지 않는 기능이기는 하다.

그런데 오래되기는 했지만 얼마 전부터 이 빌더로 생성한 홈페이지의 로컬 세팅(출력 설정) 값을 변경하여 저장해도 저장이 되지 않는 문제가 나타났다. 아마 PHP 버전에 따라 문제가 나타나는 것으로 보인다.

이를 해결하려면 로컬 세팅 각 항목의 값 중 작은따옴표(')가 들어가 있는지를 확인하고 이 작은따옴표를 없애거나 다른 기호로 바꾼 후 저장해 보도록 한다.

모든 빌더가 마찬가지이다.

혹시 그래도 문제가 있다면 해당 테이블의 해당 레코드를 찾아 직접 수정하는 방법도 있다.

요즘은 웹을 통해 신문 기사를 읽는 일이 보편화하였고 많이 익숙해져 있기 때문에 종이 신문을 볼 일이 그렇게 많지는 않다. 그래도 아직은 종이 신문을 보는 것이 더 편하고 친숙한 것이 사실이다. 우리나라의 각 신문사에서는 종이로 매일 발행되는 신문을 PDF 등의 전자 파일 형태로 제공하고 있다. 종이 신문과 거의 같은 가격의 유료로 서비스하는 곳도 있고 무료로 제공하는 곳도 있다.

아이스크랩(EyeScrap)은 이렇게 전자 파일로 제공되는 국내 신문 기사를 한 번에 모아서 볼 수 있게 해주는 프로그램이다.

무료로 제공되는 신문사의 자료를 그냥 볼 수 있다. 하지만, 이 프로그램에서 제공하는 스크랩이나 인쇄 기능을 사용하려면 별도의 요금을 추가로 지불해야 한다. 이런 기능이 필요한 경우에는 유료라도 무척 유용한 기능이다. 그래도 무료 신문들은 보는 것 자체는 무료이니 그냥 신문을 쭉 훑어볼 때에는 그만이다.

달력이 들어 있는 일정표나 메모장, 또는 간단한 주소록 등을 종이에 작은 글자로 인쇄하여 수첩이나 명함 지갑에 넣고 다녀야 하는 경우가 있다. 예전에는 복사기를 이용해서 축소 모드로 여러 번 복사해서 만드는 사람도 있었다. 워드 프로세서에서 인쇄할 때 글씨를 작게 하여 인쇄하는 방법도 있고, FinePrint 같은 유틸리티를 사용하는 방법도 있다. 문제는 작게 인쇄하는 데에 있는 것이 아니라 이를 접어 넣는 방법이다.

The PocketMod라는 프로그램은 PDF로 만들어진 문서를 작게 접어 들고 다닐 수 있는 형태로 인쇄할 수 있도록 다시 만들어준다.

프로그램을 다운로드 한 후 실행하면 지정한 폴더에 실행 파일을 풀어준다. 즉, 따로 설치 과정이 필요 없는 단순 실행 파일이다. 프로그램 폴더에서 PDFtoPocketMod.exe를 실행하여 출력할 종이의 크기를 정한 후, 원본 PDF를 지정해 주고 변환되어 저장될 이름을 지정해 주면 또 다른 PDF 파일을 만들어 준다.

변환 작업이 끝나면 결과 파일이 열린다. 아래 그림과 같이 종이 한 장에 8페이지를 만들어주고 페이지마다 경계선이 그어져 있다. 아래쪽 네 페이지는 뒤집어 인쇄되어 있는 것이 특징이다.

이 파일을 프린터로 인쇄한 후 아래 방법에 따라 종이를 접으면 된다.

아래 그림에서 보는 바와 같이 가장 처음 페이지는 가장 왼쪽 아래에 있다.

종이에 인쇄된 경계선을 기준으로 가운데 부분이 위로 올라오도록 접는다.

겹쳐진 중간 부분의 가운데 경계선과 그림과 같이 잘라준다. 다른 경계선을 실선으로 인쇄되어 있지만 잘라내는 부분은 점선으로 되어 있다.

잘린 부분 중 위쪽은 왼쪽으로 아래쪽은 오른쪽으로 겹쳐 접는다. 방향이 정확해야 한다.

아랫부분을 뒤로 돌려 접는다.

4, 5페이지가 마주 보도록 앞으로 접는다.

대략 가로세로 각각 7, 10cm 정도의 크기로 만들어진다.

한 장에 8페이지로만 만들어지는데 좀 더 다양한 옵션을 원하면 다음 사이트를 이용한다.

PDF 파일을 올리면 변환해 주는 사이트로 온라인에서 작동한다. 회원 가입을 할 필요도 없고 프로그램을 받아 설치하는 것도 아니어서 비교적 편리하기는 하지만 자신의 파일을 사이트에 올리는 절차가 필요하다.

 

구글 애드센스(AdSense)의 실적을 바탕 화면에서 실시간으로 확인하는 용도로 Google AdSense Widget (관련 기사: [Google AdSense Widget] 구글 애드센스 실적 실시간으로 확인하기[2007. 7. 16.] )을 소개한 적이 있다. 이와 비슷한 용도로 더 많은 정보를 보여 주고 옵션도 더 다양한 다른 위젯으로 AdSensor라는 것이 있다. 2008년 1월 11일자로 2.7 버전이 나왔다. 프로그램에 대한 자세한 설명은 다음 링크를 참조한다.

Google AdSense Widget보다는 많은 정보를 보여 주기 때문에 더 넓은 공간을 차지한다. 상단의 구글(Google) 로고는 옵션에서 없앨 수 있다. 필요에 따라 적절한 프로그램을 사용하면 된다.

2.7 버전에서 개선된 사항은 아래와 같다.

- Fixed: Google changed the login page that caused "Error! Reading Data failed" when logging in with Google account.

Windows에서 PHP 를 5.2.x 버전이나 그 이하 버전에서 5.2.5로 업그레이드를 하면 잘 되던 웹 페이지가 연결이 되지 않을 때가 있다. 보통 빈 페이지가 출력되거나 웹 서버에서 프로그래밍 오류가 생겼을 수 있다는 안내 페이지가 나오기도 한다.

이때는 다음 두 가지를 확인하면 된다.

1. PHP가 설치된 폴더에서 libmysql.dll 파일을 찾아 Windows 폴더로 복사한다. 복사한 후 웹 서버는 재시작해야 한다.

2. Windows의 시스템 등록 정보 창의 [고급] > [환경 변수]에서 시스템 변수에 다음 정보를 추가하고 시스템을 재시작한다.
  - 변수 이름: PHRC
  - 변수 값: PHP가 설치된 전체 경로

우선 1번만 시도한 후 문제가 계속되면 2번까지 진행한다.
